Canon has gained a good market in terms of its EOS series of DSLR’s. Earlier they launched the EOS 60D, which was a very affordable camera and gained a very good response from the camera enthusiasts. Now they have launched the successor of 60D, the all new 70D which looks almost similar to the 60D but differs in terms of specs and features. It is a mid-range SLR for the enthusiast photographers. It is a sensible and desirable upgrade of the 60D. 70D borrows some of its features from the existing Canon DSLR’s like auto focus sensor from the EOS 7D, touchscreen from the 700D and the Wi-Fi from the EOS 6D. Its ISO ranges from 100-12800 which is quite impressive.

The EOS 70D looks similar to that of its predecessor but actually it is smaller than 60D. It weighs 675 g without battery. Whole of the body is almost made of plastics but there is no need of worry about because it still feels nice and handy. It is water and dust resistance. The grip on the hand feels very comfortable and sits solidly in your hand. It uses the same articulated touchscreen similar to that found in EOS 650D and EOS 700D. Canon was the first to introduce the touchscreen in DSLR’s. The screen can be rotated in all directions. The screen comes with high-sensitivity setting which allows operation with gloves also.
The camera comes with 20.2 MP sensors which is quite impressive for a camera like this. It comes with Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system that gives on-chip phase detection autofocus at every single pixel. Its 19 point AF system may seem low as compared to Nikon’s 51-point AF system but being low it is well covered. The camera may not impress enthusiasts but for a mid-category camera like this, the camera is quite good. Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system provides full time continuous autofocus for still shooting and video capturing. Image quality is not that much impressive but it has slightly improved over 60D. The Canon 70D can shoot up to 7fps at full resolution. All Canon cameras come with excellent white balance which helps to capture good and pleasant looking colors.
Battery life of the camera is listed as 1300 images using available light and it drops to 920 images with 50% flash usage. So, overall 70D is quite a well-designed camera with new improved AF system and good build quality. This DSLR will surely be liked by the enthusiasts because of its well-rounded camera. It is available at an affordable price tag of INR. 69,995. Looking at its price tag, it will surely give a tough competition to the Nikon D7100.
